Loveday is thrilled to announce that our Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Laurence Geller CBE, has been honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Leaders in Care Awards 2025. This prestigious recognition celebrates Laurence’s exceptional contribution to advancing dementia care and his lifelong dedication to improving the lives of those affected by the condition.
Accepting the award, Laurence said, “I am truly humbled by this honour and accept it on behalf of the extraordinary Loveday team – wonderful and talented people who have built and run homes that set the standard not just for luxury, but for the all-important respect and joy in caring.”
Motivated by the loss of both his parents to dementia, Laurence has channelled his personal experience into a powerful mission: to revolutionise the future of dementia care through his vision for Loveday. “If I had known then what I know now, I could have made their lives better and longer,” he reflected. “That shame and regret never leaves me. It fuels me, and I will fight to my last day to provide the best care possible and set examples for others to follow.”
Since its inception in 2016, Loveday has become recognised as the UK’s best-in-class provider of luxury care for seniors, renowned for offering Care Beyond Compare. Each of our services, including residential, nursing, memory, respite, rehabilitation and Day Club, is meticulously designed around the individual, delivering exceptional standards of support and hospitality. At the heart of his philosophy is a seamless blend of clinical excellence and innovation.
“Through my many decades in the hotel industry, we have brought the disciplines of hospitality – attention to detail, warmth and a genuine smile – into care,” he said. “Every innovation, therapy, design choice and menu item is aimed at one thing: helping those living with dementia live longer, better, richer lives.”
Laurence’s vision extends far beyond business growth. He is determined to reshape the UK’s approach to dementia care, addressing the critical shortage of beds and the rising prevalence of dementia – now affecting more than 944,000 people in the UK, a figure expected to exceed 1.1 million by 2030. Laurence’s priorities include:
- Testing new care technologies to improve outcomes and share advancements with the wider industry.
- Pioneering a new, evidence-based care model that is both scalable and future-proof.
- Empowering individuals through personalised, enriching care experiences.
- Investing in research to better understand, prevent and treat dementia.
- Driving collaboration across academia, healthcare and government through the Geller Commission, focused on prevention, protection and simplification of dementia pathways.
- Advising the UK Government on dementia as part of its Major Conditions Strategy.
Laurence champions specialist education – he serves as Chancellor at the University of West London and is the longest serving chancellor of any UK university. He established the Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory at the University of West London and funded the first Master’s Degree in Dementia Studies, which is working on a variety of life sciences projects to promote public health and support individuals living with dementia.
Beyond his professional achievements, Laurence’s philanthropic commitment is extraordinary. He has pledged to donate 75% of his net worth and time to charitable causes, already personally donating £21 million and fundraising over £40 million for initiatives that advance health, education and dementia research. He is recognised by the Times as the UK’s most significant philanthropic donor for dementia care.
Laurence’s leadership, passion and vision continue to inspire the entire Loveday team. His belief in “thinking big” drives all of the Loveday teams to create meaningful change – to enhance lives, support families and shape a more compassionate, informed and innovative future for dementia care.
In his closing words, Laurence reminded the Loveday community of the shared mission that continues to drive him: “This award is a clarion call to all at Loveday to keep going – to raise standards together and improve the lives of our Members and their loved ones. We will never cease striving to give back, to innovate, and to ensure that every person living with dementia in the UK has a longer, fuller and better life. They have earned it, and they deserve it.”
