Fifty years ago, Jane and Steve celebrated their wedding at Upper Court, the very place that has now been beautifully restored as Loveday Esher. Last week, they returned, to celebrate their golden anniversary, curated with all the elegance and charm of the original day.
Welcomed with a champagne afternoon tea, the couple were visibly moved. The menu paid homage to their wedding reception, complete with cucumber sandwiches, a favourite among their guests back in 1975. “It was unbelievable and magical to be back,” Jane said, “So much has changed, but the soul of the place remains, the archway, the gardens; it’s all been so exquisitely preserved.”
Now an elegant residence offering exceptional care, hospitality and lifestyle services, Loveday Esher proved the perfect setting for this very special occasion. “It’s wonderful that this building has found such a meaningful new purpose,” Steve remarked. “You’ve created something so special, we were half-joking about joining the waiting list in 20 years!”
They admired the residence’s design, noting how Loveday has carved out distinct spaces where Members can relax, connect and enjoy life. “Absolutely stunning,” they added, praising the attention to detail and the warmth that radiates through every corner.
Reflecting on 50 years of marriage, Jane and Steve shared their secret: “Banter. Don’t take things too seriously. Laugh together and have your own interests too.”
The couple plan to continue doing what they love most, spending time with family, watching grandchildren grow and exploring the countryside with their dogs in their beloved caravan. From St Ives to the New Forest, their story continues to unfold, filled with love, laughter and golden memories.
At Loveday, we were honoured to host such a poignant return, celebrating not only a marriage but enduring joy.
