Extraordinary Days

Extraordinary Days

Our Extraordinary Days programme comprises a highly innovative, evidence-based activities schedule brought to life in collaboration with a progressive, multidisciplinary research team from the University of West London (UWL)’s Geller Institute of Ageing and Memory.

The programme applies cutting-edge neuroscience and psychological evidence that stimulating activities involving art, music, language, learning and storytelling help improve interactions, mood and mobility for those living with dementia. It is developed around each Member’s hobbies, interests and insights from home assessment and lifestyle interviews.

Its five elements ensure every Member lives every day well:

Sense & Sensory

Sense & Sensory is designed to stimulate the mind, memory and senses and initiate meaningful
conversations and connections, helping improve confidence.

Our range of programmes extend from the joys of flower arranging to pet therapy, aromatherapy and delicious culinary tastings.

Mind & Memory

Mind & Memory focuses on new learning via an engaging programme of brain games, reminiscence
and cognitive stimulation. Each day begins by reviewing the newspapers and culminates in debates
around the latest headlines.

Our Members are invited to enjoy the cognitive stimulation of language and other lessons, our Politics Club and a wealth of enjoyable puzzles and board games.

Arts & Culture

Arts & Culture is a captivating curriculum of dynamic artistic and cultural exploration to enhance mood while stimulating meaningful conversation and confidence.

This includes the Loveday Arts Club, music and dramatic performances and music therapy, in addition to the delights of our Poetry Club and ample excursions to the theatre, ballet, opera, sporting events and local attractions.

Eldergym

Eldergym keeps the body active to improve strength, flexibility and optimum mental and physical health via daily exercise.

We offer tailored physical support, ranging from personal training to physical therapy, indoor bowls and armchair fitness.

Culinary Masterclass

Culinary Masterclass is our culinary arts team’s lively programme of baking, making and tasting classic and favourite recipes.

Our sensory-stimulating programme incorporates not only cooking demonstrations, but also delicious baking classes and tasting sessions.

As everything is tailored to Members’ preferences, every request from Members and their families is incorporated into the activities programme. All activities can be group or individual.

Extraordinary Days also includes outings and events at London museums, theatres and historic venues, from the Hurlingham Club to the Sloane Club, Cadogan Hall, the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Saatchi Gallery, as well as the Royal College of Music and the Royal Opera House.

Grand days out for sports fans range from outings to Royal Ascot to matches at Twickenham and at Arsenal and Chelsea Football Clubs.

“I am particularly impressed by the variety of activities on offer for the members. [The activity staff] do a fantastic job and endeavour to include everyone”
