The Ceramic Project at Chelsea Court Place

The Ceramic Project at Chelsea Court Place
Inspired by Frida Kahlo

The Ceramic Project is a multi-media project designed and delivered by our Artist in Residence Grace Holliday. This activity has fundamentally encouraged and invited sensory creative experiences to members as part of their innovative care programme at Chelsea Court Place.

The key aim during The Ceramics Project, which was inspired by the current exhibition Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up at the V&A, was to invite participating members to approach the physicality of creative art-making as a personal experience of the tactile process, as well as shared visual outcome.

Through a series of collaborative workshops, handling sessions and a creative tour of the exhibition itself, participating members from Chelsea Court Place have each responded in their own interpretative ways. The inspiration was drawn from the wonderfully colourful, inspiring and stimulating aesthetics of Frida Kahlo’s fashion, painting and fascinating life journey.

From such themes as starting points, main inspirations during the project have also included: The patterns and textures of Frida’s native Mexico, evolving sense of identity and influences of the natural world – specifically the manipulation, pressing and decoration of flowers.

We are very proud of the work that has been delivered in The Ceramic Project which was thoroughly enjoyed by all participants. It is currently on display at Chelsea Court Place and is certainly brightening up our home!
